Things You Won’t Want to Miss at Animal Kingdom in Disney World

Animal Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World is one of our favorites to visit and I have a whole list of reasons why. It seems like Magic Kingdom is popular with the smaller children, and teenagers tend to like Hollywood Studios, of course, Epcot is a favorite among the adults. Where does Animal Kingdom fit in? We think it’s one that EVERY age group will love. Check out our must-see list!

Animal Kingdom is a zoological theme park covering 580 acres! There are six areas within the park:

  • Oasis
  • Discovery Island
  • Pandora
  • Africa
  • Asia
  • DinoLand U.S.A

Fun Photo Ops

You’ve probably heard the term “Instagrammable”, it’s a thing now. It means something that is worthy of being posted on Instagram.  Well, we think Animal Kingdom has some great Instagram-worthy places to take fun pictures. The park is divided into six themed areas and it’s worth walking through all of them. Our best-kept secret is to walk around and find the hidden walls and props that make for the best pictures in places that not everyone stops to appreciate! Check out a few of our favorites:

If you find any of these places on your visit be sure to tag us on Instagram!

Dole Whip with Rum

First all let me make sure you know about Dole Whip before we move on to ordering it with rum, which just makes this already amazing treat even better! So Dole Whip is this cup of deliciousness which has a fresh pineapple flavor and is the texture of ice cream mixed with a slushy. I look forward to ordering one at Walt Disney World almost as much as I anticipate riding Flight of Passage (more on that later). You can find this treat at Animal Kingdom at Aloha Isle in Adventureland next to the Enchanted Tiki Room.

You must add this to your must-try list on your next visit. I mean it’s Disney so you should ‘treat-yo-self’ right?

Kilimanjaro Safari

I remember when I was mapping out our time in Animal Kingdom and I purposefully did NOT plan a visit to the safari. I mean, I’ve been to plenty of zoos and I didn’t feel like this would be anything that I’d regret not seeing. WOW WAS I WRONG! So on our last visit to WDW, we decided it was time to see what the safari was all about. It was an incredible experience, it was 10x better than a zoo. In true Disney fashion, they created a full experience which made you feel like you were really on a safari. Add it to your list!

Flight of Passage

The BEST RIDE EVER! I loved everything about the Flight of Passage, yes, even the line! There are so many sights, sounds and smells to keep you engaged as you move through the queue. I must admit that I’ve been on this ride 8 times and I would gladly go on it 100 more times! It’s even my 9-year-olds favorite ride at Disney World.

I don’t want to give away too many spoilers but if you want more details check out my post 3 Reasons Why You Must Visit Pandora The World of Avatar.

Pandora at Night

If you think Pandora during the day is awesome than you must see it at night. My first time to see it at night I felt like I was visiting this area of the park for the first time. If you’re a fan of the movie than you know that Pandora can feel like two different worlds, one you see during the day and the other at night.

Rivers of Light – Night Show

I’m such a kid when it comes to the night shows that Disney puts on at each of the parks. It’s impossible to top the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, however, the River of Lights is worth checking out. There was a heart-warming story that was being told through the use of water, lights, and music. The stadium seating was filled with people who were completely captivated by this experience. DID YOU KNOW: You can use a FastPass to get into the show early to get the best seats!

The Tree of Life (at night)

When I was 10-years-old my family took me to Walt Disney World, at that time the Tree of Life was being built. I remember wishing we had come at a later time so that I could see it. As an adult, it was nice to stand in front of the 145 feet tall 50-foot wide tree that has become the centerpiece of Animal Kingdom. Although the tree makes for an incredible photo op during the day, you don’t want to miss the Tree of Life Awakening showcase at night. The tree comes to life (hence the name) with color and lights and you’ll be completely mesmerized! Much like the firework shows at Disney, you might even get a little emotional during the show.
