5 Ways You Can Save Money That No One’s Telling You About
We all have the same goal, to save more money. The internet world is inundated with varies ways in which you can accomplish this goal. Instead of providing a long list of suggestions on how you can do this, I’m going to share with you the 5 things that I personally have done to save money for my family. Everything you’ll read comes from my real life experience. This also might be things that no one’s telling you about so let me fill you in!
Have you heard about GABI? Do you live in an area that been affected by natural disasters? I’ve lived in Texas all of my life and we recently faced one of the worst hurricanes we’ve ever had (Harvey). Of course, when something like this happens, our insurance rates start to rise. When I received the noticed that my rates had gone up, I knew I needed to do some research to find a better deal.
A friend told me about GABI. They are a FREE app that you can use to compare insurance quotes and shop for the best deal. I was able to upload my current home and auto policy and they compared the rates and found me a better deal on my home insurance with a well-known company. I didn’t hesitate to make the switch. They also later alerted me when they found a better deal on my auto. I ended up saving over $1,000/year by switching. The best part was that I was able to use my phone to send them all the needed information, we corresponded online, so I easily fit the task of searching for a new insurance company into my busy schedule! Their customer service was excellent and now I recommend them to everyone! Check them out here.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard of people just getting rid of their old stuff without first trying to sell it. You might not be someone who isn’t interested in having a garage sale but give the Facebook Marketplace a chance, it’s so easy! Sell your old unwanted stuff and take the money you earned and save it. This is a great way to reach your financial goals ahead of schedule.
You can list stuff directly from your Facebook app. It’s as easy as snapping a picture and adding a description. Facebook will show the items you have for sale to people in your area. Always plan to meet them in a public place, our local Target has people coming and going in the parking lot who are buying and selling things off of Facebook.
Do you have thermostat wars at your house? We do! I’d turn the air up and my husband would turn the air down, it was a truly never-ending battle. Finally, we purchased a programmable thermostat which helped put an end to the war and saved us a ton of money on our electric bill! You can program it to keep the house at a certain temperature during different times of the day. You no longer have to worry about forgetting to turn the air up or off. Just log in to your app and control the thermostat from your phone. This is a great way to SAVE money and these also make great gifts for the couples that you know who can never agree on the air temperature. Tell them to agree on a temp, program it, and walk away!
This is the exact one we use:
I started using the DOSH app when it first appeared in the app store. I’m always looking for ways to earn cash back but I’m not very organized with my receipts and I’m certainly not someone who will mail in anything! When I heard that DOSH was offering cashback at the stores I shop at, it took me no time to join. You simply download the app, enter the debit/credit cards that you normally use to make purchases, and then shop like you normally would. Once you make a purchase at one of the qualifying DOSH stores then you’ll hear a CHA-CHING notification on your app which will tell you how much cashback you earned. Look at my savings from just having the app for a couple of months last year!
The last time I earned cashback I was walking out of SAM’S CLUB and before I could make it to my car, I had earned 10% back on my purchase. I did a little happy dance then and there, I didn’t even care who was watching. You should really check out the list of participating stores. I’m earning money on gas, groceries, hotel stays, and more! I’m crossing my fingers that one day I’ll be able to earn cashback on air travel!
